For over 23 years, Dr. Sunil Kumar Swain has stood at the operating table where the stakes are highest and the patients are smallest – repairing the hearts of newborns as light as 2 kg, and giving more than 4000 children the chance to grow up.
Every child’s heart deserves expert care. Throughout his career, Dr. Sunil Kumar Swain has been committed to treating children with heart disease through surgical excellence, compassion, and patient-centred care.
His journey is built on years of experience, continuous learning, and a passion for improving young lives.
Between 2007 and 2009, Dr. Swain trained at two of Australia’s leading cardiac institutions — Mater Children’s Hospital and Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane — working directly under internationally recognised paediatric cardiac surgeons Dr. Tom Karl and Dr. Graham Nunn, and cardiac surgeon Dr. P. Pohlner.
The fellowship provided Dr. Swain with valuable international clinical experience in paediatric cardiac surgery, complementing his specialist training at AIIMS, New Delhi. The knowledge and perspectives gained during this period continue to inform his clinical practice today.
When your child needs heart surgery, you need more than surgical expertise—you need a doctor who listens, explains every decision, and stands beside your family from diagnosis to recovery. Every child is cared for with the same attention, compassion, and commitment that Dr. Sunil Kumar Swain would expect for his own family.

Every child’s heart condition is different. Dr. Swain carefully evaluates each case, reviewing medical history, diagnostic findings, and the child’s overall health to develop a personalised treatment plan tailored to their specific needs.

Parents deserve clarity, not confusion. Every diagnosis, treatment option, surgical plan, potential risks, and expected outcomes are explained in simple, understandable language, empowering families to make informed decisions with confidence.

Successful paediatric heart surgery depends on meticulous planning and unwavering attention to detail. Every operation is approached with proven surgical techniques, careful preparation, and the experience gained from more than two decades of treating congenital heart conditions.

Healing continues long after surgery. Recovery includes regular follow-ups, monitoring your child’s growth and heart function, nutritional guidance, and ongoing support to help every child return to a healthy and active life.
Honoured with awards, fellowships and memberships from leading institutions that reflect a commitment to excellence in paediatric cardiac care.
Alongside clinical practice, Dr. Swain has contributed to research, scientific publications and academic presentations focused on improving outcomes in paediatric cardiac surgery.
