For over 23 years, Dr. Sunil Kumar Swain has stood at the operating table where the stakes are highest and the patients are smallest – repairing the hearts of newborns as light as 2 kg, and giving more than 4000 children the chance to grow up.

Between 2007 and 2009, Dr. Swain trained at two of Australia’s leading cardiac institutions — Mater Children’s Hospital and Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane — working directly under internationally recognised paediatric cardiac surgeons Dr. Tom Karl and Dr. Graham Nunn, and cardiac surgeon Dr. P. Pohlner.

The fellowship provided Dr. Swain with valuable international clinical experience in paediatric cardiac surgery, complementing his specialist training at AIIMS, New Delhi. The knowledge and perspectives gained during this period continue to inform his clinical practice today.
